A Career at the Intersection of Technology and Improving Care
For nearly four decades, I've innovated at the intersection of
technology and patient (or consumer) engagement. Being sick,
living with a chronic condition, or simply striving to maintain
the highest possible quality of life isn’t easy. Entering the
chaotic and busy healthcare system is often unpleasant, especially
when trying to solve an immediate clinical issue. It’s easy to
declare we all need to be proactive in making informed and healthy
choices to improve our lives, however, doing so is another
conversation. Therefore, I’ve reached the point in my career where
I want to help care for our aging loved ones while supporting the
adult children who are shouldering the brunt of care. My next
passion is Lifeguard Healthcare, which focuses on supporting aging
at home and allows families to act like relatives, rather than
care providers.

Caring for your mother and father just got easier
The idea for
Lifeguard came to me
after I was touched both personally and professionally by the
challenges of helping aging loved ones remain healthy and
independent. After developing a high-end, personalized concierge
service and individualized care plan, our mission is to create a
baseline of wellness while restoring calm and peace of mind among
those who need it the most.

Expanding Physician Engagement Between Visits
After Medicare began reimbursing for chronic care management in
2015, my business partner Steven Ferguson and I saw an
opportunity to help physicians by collaborating with our remote
staff to extend the care the practice could offer between
in-person office visits. Wellbox quickly topped INC’s
fastest-growing companies list and is the USA’s largest provider
of CCM and RPM services to physicians and, health systems.

Building Cloud-Based Health Platforms Across the Globe
Just over a decade ago, I launched Myca with the goal of providing
cloud technology to doctors and clinicians near and far. Together
with a talented team of IT and product management professionals,
we’ve since helped build unique health platforms all over the
world, including the first cloud-based EMR in Australia and
Kuwait.

Digital Healthcare At Your Fingertips
Understanding the overwhelming opportunity and need for expanding
digital healthcare in the United States, I launched Hello Health
in New York City along with Dr. Jay Parkinson. As the world’s
first cloud-based EMR and patient portal, Hello Health pioneered a
hybrid in-person and digital communications between patients and
physicians, enabling 24/7, convenient care through email, text,
and video conference at your fingertips.
Telehealth Launched in Canada
Believing telehealth was an important evolution to replace the
classic “house call,” I launched Santé Sans File to expand access
to care to Quebecers seeking a better and easier engagement with
their physicians. With telehealth ripe for disruption the
mid-2000s, Santé Sans File would have allowed patients to see a
doctor virtually, from the comfort of their homes.

A Doctor In Your Pocket – first wearable on the arm band
After an outstanding Canyon Ranch experience during a visit with
my wife in 2005, I saw an opportunity to integrate remote patient
monitoring into the company’s wellness program. After
collaborating with the founders, co-medical directors, Sprint, and
Body Media, we launched the first wearable solution that enabled
the clinical team to exchange medical advice through the internet
and your cell phone.

The World’s First Mobile Health App
The idea for My Food Phone came to me after emailing photos of my
daily food intake to a friend for dietary advice. Shortly after,
at a time when cell phones had just begun integrating cameras and
apps were something novel, my team and I launched the world’s
first mobile health app on Sprint, bringing nutritional counseling
to people around the globe with the click of a button.

Safer Medication Dispensing in the Hospital
Unintentional human error happens in every industry. In the
hospital setting, medication administration is one of the most
important functions, requiring the focus and diligence of
accomplished pharmacists and nurses. With Eon, we help bring
technology into the hospital to support nurse teams who administer
medications to patients under their care. By increasing safety
measures, EON (now Carefusion/Cardinal Health) championed the
incredible care being delivered by nurses.

Connected Fitness
In the 1990s, exercise equipment was an experience between the
user and the machine. However, what motivates and inspires us
today is a sense of community working together, live
tracking/feedback, and competing against one another. Xystos was
the first inter-connected exercise equipment that laid the
foundation for today’s most innovative and connected fitness
brands around the world.
